What Should Businesses Spend On Entertaining Their Contacts?

21 12 2009

Keeping corporate clients happy has always been important to big companies, but in these times of recession there is more focus going into this than ever. Contrary to what you might think companies would do in a recession, many are increasing their corporate entertainment spend in order to keep contacts happy. But just how far should you be going to keep those you rely on happy?

It is important to bear in mind that every business relationship works both ways.  You might be concerned that the other half will part ways, but it is highly likely that they will want to maintain relationships for the same reasons.  With this is mind it is really not necessary to break the bank on corporate entertainment. Something that will work much better is being thoughtful and accommodating.

Find out which activities your contacts enjoy or have experienced previously first, and try to get a feel of the type of activities that will suit them. You will be starting off on the right foot this way as guests will look kindly on the fact you have taken the time and effort to research their preferences.Next, try to arrange more than one activity for your guests. Everybody is different and only planning one event is likely to leave some people bored and feeling left out. For example, if you book a corporate entertainment day at Henley Regatta, don’t just get tickets to watch a couple of races. Organise for your guests to have a go in a rowing boat, speak to one of the professional rowers and see some of the sights of Henley. This way you cater for all tastes and there is less chance of people feeling left out or bored.

Finally, make sure you don’t scrimp on entertaining costs. Spending too much is not advisable, but there is nothing worse than cutting corners and quality just to save a few pennies. You will only result in making your clients or contacts feel unimportant and they could even be insulted by your lack of consideration and effort. Not something you want happening on a corporate entertainment day.
